The criminal justice reforms and commitment to repairing harms related to past prohibition of cannabis are soon to be a present-day reality. Virginia is the first Southern state to take the path towards legal adult use cannabis. It is unlikely to be the last.
On July 1, 2021, Virginia will officially legalize adult use cannabis, following the state’s legislature approving the governor’s amendments to their plan. The state of Virginia has now finalized their legalization plans, setting in motion the launch of the very first legal adult use cannabis market in the American South.
A bipartisan group of lawmakers in Wyoming have introduced a bill to legalize and regulate cannabis this week. Polling showed a majority of Wyoming residents support cannabis legalization, shortly after two neighboring states legalized cannabis in 2020.
